One Little Word | Grow

As usual with me, I was late in picking my “One Little Word” for the year.  Also, as per usual, it just HIT me on the head one day, while I was in conversation with one of my co-workers about what I wanted this next year to look like. I realized, after I said that I wanted to “grow in so many ways this year,” that THAT should be my word for the year.

There are so many ways I want to GROW this year:

  • I want to grow my business.   Since I started my business around 6 years ago, there has definitely been changes and improvements.  I’ve changed and refined my offerings, I’ve been full-time freelance and part time freelance… I’ve offered products and services… I want to work harder to be on the path to make my busniness the best that it can be.
  •  Grow my “non digital” skills .  I used to dive into any crafty or creative skill with such obsession and force… and then I started getting really into graphic design and techy stuff… and the “other” creative stuff took a backseat.  This is good, you know, for my career and all, but also bad, because I was getting stuck creatively a lot more.  This year, I want to learn more physically creative skills like watercolor, calligraphy, fused glass,  figure drawing, and maybe even some sewing.
    • How I’m going to make that happen: I’ve signed up for a ton of courses on Skillshare and Craftsy (sidenote: they have some really awesome free PDF “eGuides” out right now. Some of my favorites are the ones on photography, using your paper scraps, painting, and drawing.  Be sure to check those out!)  I’m also trying to make times work to take a few classes in my area, at the local art center.
  • Grow my faith.  Of course, this is a super personal one. I’ve experienced crazy amounts of faith movement in the past year, and I really want to keep that up. No real plans on how to make that happen, but it is a priority in my life right now. The people I’ve started to surround myself with this year have helped with this in so many ways, and I’m looking forward to what happens this year as well.

How are you growing this year? What’s your word for the year?

  1. I think I’m growing in the same ways that you are; I’m graduating college soon with a BFA in Graphic Design and I know I’d eventually like to freelance, so I’m constantly reading up on how others run their business. My word for the year is simple. I always feel like I have a lot going on, so I want to re-evaluate what’s important to me and focus on those things.

  2. Such a great word!!! I’ll be praying for it to bloom in the ways you’re hoping for and in ways you never knew possible. 🙂

  3. I’ve never picked my own word before, but I always love reading about other people’s choices. Love the word grow! It inherently has so much potential. Good luck with it Allie!

  4. My One Little Word for 2015 is immerse, this is my first year choosing a word, so I decided to join Ali Edward’s class to receive all the possible prompts 🙂

Grow is a great word, in my opinion, and I can easily see it leading me through the year.

  5. Love this – I definitely agree with saying no to projects that don’t fit. It’s so tempting but can send you in the opposite direction of where you need to be. Not always easy though!
